The virtual panorama of old Lviv

Interactive 3D Installation of the Historic City of Lviv

This project was created in cooperation with Linea. We have worked together to create interactive 3D installation of the city of Lviv as it looked like in mid-18th century. Based on the work of the Polish architect and art historian, Janusz Witwicki, we have rebuild over 180 miniature buildings, including minuscule houses, churches and monasteries. People can now immerse themselves and navigate freely in the ancient city of Lviv.

The project was built using the Unity engine and rendered in real time on a Titan RTX graphics card. At the time, it was the only GPU available on the market with a sufficient amount of VRAM. The installation ran smoothly and attracted crowds of young visitors. Control was handled using an Xbox controller.

The greatest challenge turned out to be the "cleanup" of artifacts resulting from photogrammetry. If time had allowed, we could have achieved an even better result through retopology. Nevertheless, the overall presentation was coherent, and we are proud of the final outcome of this project.
